Regret, guilt, love

I went on a bike ride with god.  I’ve been feeling lately, that I cant get over this guilt of sin.  Now I told god, “I know that you have forgiven me of my sin in the past, present, and beyond forever; Meaning that the sin I haven’t committed yet has already been forgiven, but how can I deal with the guilt that has been left behind?

I think this is the main reason why people leave the religion, which is a poor, lazy, honestly almost reasonable reason.  Regret, or guilt, is a very disgusting emotion to face.  These are one of the emotions that we will try to avoid at all costs.  Separate from sadness, some people would say, “you need to let it out sometimes” going as far as saying that it is the healthy thing to do.  With guilt, they would never say that.

Once guilt is felt, the appropriate response is to get rid of it as fast as possible.  In my opinion, the best way to get rid of guilt is to take responsibility and apologize.  Now unless you have miscounted your brain cells, you should know this does prove to be difficult for just about everyone.  This is why some people fall to the other best way to get rid of guilt, which is to reject it and to tell yourself that you are not at fault.

I believe this is the main factor for people leaving Christianity.  In Christianity, you are told, by other Christian’s, that you have to abide by these specific rules that god has set for you.  If you don’t, that is called sin.

We can see in the New Testament, around the time Jesus was doing his thing, that the Jewish leaders were taking the rules way too far, in a way where they lost the true meaning behind their purpose.  Now you see, the point in Jesus coming down was to show us a different way to get rid of this guilt, to give it to him.

When sin is committed, it means that someone, or myself, has fallen short of god.  In this sense, you would think that you would now have to take responsibility of this sin, and apologize before god.  Now imagine that you do it again, then again, then again.  At some point you are going to feel so sick of your guilt and “unworthiness” that you are going to fall into the other approach, reject the sin and plead not guilty.  Doing this doesn’t help you stop sinning, but at least you wouldn’t feel guilty for doing it.  This becomes a good solution until you realize why god made it a sin in the first place.

God is the all knowing creator of the universe, as well as the creator of you.  God loves all of us and wants us to live a life full of joy, and a life close to him.  This is why Jesus came down.  Jesus came down to show us that life is not about trying not to sin.  It is about having a relationship with god.  It is understanding that god is loving and that he is a serving god.  So Jesus did just that, he served.  He lived the perfect life, and he died the gruesome death that took account for the sin of the world, so that we can not be tied down by our sin, but instead to focus on our relationship with him.

God calls on those who know his love and understand what it means to be Christian, to spread our knowledge to those who are lost in this worlds sin.  Not to tell them that their sin is bad, but to tell them about the victory that god had against our sin, and that we can be free from guilt and shame if we just give it to god and follow him.

What this does not mean is that we wont sin anymore.  What this does mean is that god has so much love for us, that whoever believes in his love and sacrifice, will experience all of his love, all of his joy, and all of his grace.
